With great sadness we must report the sudden passing of Reverend Douglas (Doug) Richard Ireland in Arrowwood, Alberta on September 4, 2013 at the age of 60 years. Doug was born in Ponoka, AB. on June 20, 1953. After completing his Bachelor’s degree in Edmonton, he obtained his degree in Theology at UBC and was ordained as a United Church Minister in 1980. Doug went to serve communities at United Churches in High Prairie, Abbotsford, BC, Chilliwack, BC, and Arrowwood. He dedicated his career and his life to giving peace to people in their time of need. Doug was a strong advocate for all who entered his life. His generosity with, and acceptance of everyone was a constant theme in his life. Doug touched the lives of thousands of people over many years. In the same way that he brought light into the lives of so many, spending time with children brought an immense amount of joy to him. He was predeceased by his father Ken, sister Cindy, nephew Michael, brother Timothy, and brother Dan. He leaves to mourn his mother Jeanne, daughters Lindsey (Mike), Jennifer, and step-family Maureen, Suuzi, Sascha, and Ross. Also affected by this loss are his many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many friends whose life he enriched with his presence. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 12th at 2:00 PM from the Brooks United Church. Rev. Kathleen Jones officiating. Interment at Brooks Cemetery.
