    James Arthur Ion

    October 28, 1937 – January 11, 2021

    James “Jim” Arthur Ion, of Calgary Alberta, was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He left this world peacefully on January 11, 2021, at the age of 83 years.

    Jim was predeceased by his beloved wife of 38 years, Marvey, in 1999. He is survived by his children, Sherry (Brian), Linda (Matt), Scott and Murray, his grandchildren Eric, Hannah, Soren, Maddox, Solvej and Wil, his siblings Eleanor Simpson, Doris Fraser, Laurence Ion and Sam Ion.  He was predeceased by his brother Ken Ion.

    Jim is also survived by his partner, travelling companion, and best friend Fran Mortenson, whom he shared many adventures with over the past few years.

    Jim grew up on a farm near Gem, Alberta. In 1955, Jim moved to Calgary and met his love of his life, Marvey Jorgensen.  They were married February 18, 1961.

    After completing his degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of North Dakota, Jim dedicated over 23 years to the energy industry. He retired as President & General Manager of Peace Pipe Line Ltd. in 1991.

    Jim was always a friendly, caring and generous man. He loved gardening, travelling in his motorhome, creating ammolite jewellery, eating delicious meals with his family and cruising to many exotic locations around the world..

    Nothing defined Jim as much as his love for his family and his devotion to their happiness.

    On Monday, January 18, 2021 there will be a Viewing at McInnis and Holloway (Fish Creek) from 12:00 to 1:00 PM with Graveside Service to follow at 2:00 PM at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
