Mrs. Ilse Thies, beloved wife of Mr. Fritz Thies of Medicine Hat, passed away on Thursday, March 27th, 2003 at the age of 74 years.
Ilse also leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Frithjof (Gilberte) Thies of Bassano and Norman (Sherry) Thies of Medicine Hat; one daughter, Roswitha (Joe) Thibodeau of Bassano; five grandchildren, Dawn (Patrick) Walsh, Jill Thrale, Sara Thies, Jesse Thies and Austin Thies; one brother, Erhard (Hildegaard) Tessmann of Germany; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Ilse was predeceased by her father, Bruno Tessmann; her mother, Olga Jankowski; her step-father, John Jankowski; and one brother, Horst Tessmann. Ilse was born on September 21st, 1928 in Stuhm, Germany where she was also raised and educated. At the age of 17, Ilse’s family became refugees and moved to West Germany. It was here that she met Fritz and they were married on October 3rd, 1951 in Rendsburg, Germany.
On August 15th, 1953, they immigrated to Canada and lived in a variety of communities in Western Canada. In 1998, Ilse and Fritz made Medicine Hat their home. Ilse loved music especially singing and picking at her guitar, gardening, cooking and entertaining her family and friends. She will be sadly missed by all who had the good fortune of knowing her.
Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, Medicine Hat, Alberta on Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. and from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and at EVANGELICAL FREE CHURCH, Bassano, Alberta on Monday from 1:00 to 1:55 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held in EVANGELICAL FREE CHURCH, Bassano, Alberta on Monday, March 31st, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Don Phillips, officiating.
Interment will follow in the Family Plot at Bassano Cemetery.
