Humphreys – Florence Humphreys of Lomond, Alberta passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at Foothills Hospital in Calgary at the age of 88 years. Florence was born May 2, 1916 at Gull Lake, Saskatchewan to Jacob and Louise Williams. She attended Grades 1-8 at Suffield School. At the age of 18, Florence left home to work at the White Lunch Cafe in Gull Lake. In 1939 she married Art Humphreys at Swift Current, Saskatchewan and they began their lives together. Into this union four children were born, three in Swift Current and one in Vulcan. The family moved to Brooks, Alberta in 1949 and in 1951 moved to Lomond. Florence worked at several jobs her last job being at the Lomond Savings and Credit Union. Florence loved and was loved by her family and friends. She made a friend of everyone she met. Her sense of humor was well known and was with her to the end. Everyone always knew where they stood with Florence. She played softball and was a pitcher on a Ladies Softball team. Florence was an avid Blue Jays fan and was ecstatic when the Blue Jays were in the World Series. She loved golf, curling, flower gardening and knitting. Over the years, Florence donated many mitts, socks and slippers to the Vulcan hospital. Loving mother of three daughters Sharon (Steve) Milos of Lethbridge, Joanne (Carter) Ensign of Canmore, Bev (Larry) Steeves of Meeting Creek, a son Don (Pat) of Brooks, eleven grand children, David (Linda), Ken (Nettie), Jeff (Kherri), Jason (Karlee), Cory, Rob (Sharon), Debbie (Cliff), Dawn (Steve), Linda (Jim), Corrine (Mark) and Stephan (Heidi), twenty-one great grandchildren, a sister Madeline (Eddie) Knott of Quesnel, BC as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Florence was predeceased by her husband Art in 1984, her sister Beatrice (Harold) Alton, her brother Wilmer Williams and her parents. Funeral service Friday, April 22, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. at the Bethany Lutheran Church, Lomond with Rev. Ed Summers officiating. Honorary Bearers are all of Florence’s friends in attendance at the service. Casket bearers are grandsons David Milos, Ken Milos, Jeff Milos, Rob Steeves, Jason Pytlarz, Cory Pytlarz and Stephan Humphreys.
