HIRONAKA – Mariko Hironaka

    Hironaka – Mariko Hironaka of Rosemary passed away peacefully on July 9th, 2022, at the age of 79, at the Brooks Hospital with family at her side.  She was born on January 2nd, 1943, to parents Yukimi and Ayako Aimoto of Kudamatsu, Japan and was the 4th of 6 children.  Mariko is survived by her 4 children, Ken (Cindy), Julie (Mike), Grant and Mark; 3 grandchildren, Jordan, Danika and Dane and several nieces and nephews.  She is also survived by her brother Goichi (Akiko); sisters, Yoko and Sanae (Yukio) of Japan and sister Sunako (Tosh); sisters-in-law, Hiroko and Sumie, and brother-in-law Hiroshi.  Mariko was recently predeceased by her husband, of 55 years, Tiosh on April 6th, 2022; she was also predeceased by her sister Sachiko and brother-in-law Atsuto of Japan; sisters-in-law Sadako and Tomoe (Shig); brothers-in-law Mitsugi and Chuck; nephews Jim and Grant.  In 1967, at the age of 24, Mariko left Japan after marrying Tiosh and moved to the Rosemary farm, where she raised her 4 children.  She spent the remainder of her life in Rosemary except for a short stay at Sunrise Gardens from November of 2021. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 6th at 2:00 PM from the Heritage Inn and Convention Centre, 1217 – 2nd Street West, Brooks, Alberta.  Rev. Yasuo Izumi officiating.  Interment to follow at Brooks Cemetery. In memory of Mariko, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Buddhist Temple of Southern Alberta, 470 40 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta T1J 3Z5. Live Streaming of the Funeral Service is scheduled to start 10 minutes before 2:00 PM via Smith Funeral Home Ltd.’s Website.
