    Heyler – Shirley Winnifred Heyler, beloved wife of the late Lewis Heyler, passed away on Saturday, August 17th, 2024, at the age of 92 years. Shirley was born in Bentley, Alberta, on March 6, 1932, to Fred and Audrey Ponto, and grew up on a farm in the Eckville area. She was always very independent, working at the Eckville Hospital and then for AGT until she married Lewis Heyler in 1972 and moved to his farm in the Sunnynook area. After 20 years on the prairie, they retired to Brooks in 1992. Shirley and Lewis spent 41 happy years together, working, playing, square dancing and travelling in their 5th wheel trailer, before Lewis passed away in 2013.  Shirley leaves to mourn her passing, sisters Mavis Bush of Calgary and Carol Bigam of Edmonton; sister-in-law Marie (Mike) Beck of Rocky Mountain House; brothers, Ray (Barb) Ponto of Fairview, and Dennis (Ingrid) Ponto of Sylvan Lake and will also be fondly remembered by cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral Services were held on Monday August 26th at 1:00 PM from Trinity Lutheran Church. Pastor Maggie Theiss officiated. Interment followed in Brooks Cemetery. In memory of Shirley, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to either Trinity Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 811 Cassils Road West, Brooks, Alberta   T1R 0E4 or Alzheimer Society – Alberta and Northwest Territories 10430 – 61st Avenue NW Edmonton, Alberta   T6H 2J3.
