    Hajash – The Hajash family deeply mourns the loss of Jacqueline Mary Hajash beloved wife of the late Joe Hajash, passed away in Brooks on June 1, 2023 at the age of 91 years. Jacqueline was born on August 15, 1931, at Calgary, Alberta. She came to Brooks with her parents, Michael Lancos and Veronica (Tatar) in the spring of 1936 to the farm south of the aqueduct. Jacqueline lived on the farm with her parents until she married Joseph Hajash, on October 23, 1948. Jacqueline would cook for a farming crew that planted potatoes and grew a garden which she would harvest and preserve for the winter. She was a devoted farmer’s wife and mother, doing everything from baking and cooking meals to mowing the lawn and driving farm equipment stacking hay. To make money they bought cattle and with some creative budgeting and economizing to save a little; started investing in Real Estate in Brooks, creating a lucrative rental property business still going to this day. She loved music and playing the piano by ear only requiring the name of the song and the key that the song was in. Jacqueline was involved in the community and was a member of the Order of the Royal Purple Lodge No. 104 earning a Lifetime Membership. Jacqueline and Joe enjoyed traveling starting in the summer of 1972 to Europe and Hungry; then extensive traveling to places such as Hawaii, Australia and New Zealand, East Asia Orient. Russia, and Mexico. In their spare time Jacqueline and Joe participated in bowling and square dancing together. Then once Joe passed, she enjoyed traveling with DeJong’s Tours enjoying friends’ company to places including Rose Bud Theatre, the Accordion Festival in Kimberly, BC and Norsk fest in Minot, North Dakota. Jacqueline was predeceased by her husband Joseph on February 18, 1996, mother Veronica (Tartar) on March 6, 1993, father Michael Lancos in October 3, 1954. Jacqueline is survived by her daughter Priscilla Petersen of Brooks, grandson, Daryl (Jennifer) of Brooks, their children Ashley of Medicine Hat, Aaliyah and Damon; grandson Bryan (Jan) of Medicine Hat their children Maia and Sylas; grandson Colin (Nicole) of Calgary, their children Brinley and Costin; grandson Aaron (Cassandra) of Brooks, their children Ellie and Acen. Son Joseph Michael Hajash of Brooks, his son Ben of Edmonton, and his daughter Jocelyn (Max Rothschild) of Toronto, their daughter Lou. Daughter Dianna Visser of Cheadle, her daughter, Krystin of Calgary, and her son Nathan of Edmonton. A Celebration of her Life was held at Heritage Inn Hotel Convention Centre, Brooks on Tuesday, June 6 at 2:00 PM. Rev. John Theiss officiating. Interment followed at the Brooks Cemetery. Reception followed at Heritage Inn Hotel Convention Centre. Active Pallbearers were Ben Hajash, Nathan Visser, Daryl Petersen, Bryan Petersen, Colin Petersen, and Aaron Petersen. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff who helped Jacqueline through the final 3 months at the Brooks Health Centre – Sub Acute Care Unit.
