Goudie – Win passed away peacefully on April 17th, 2023 at the Peter Lougheed Centre in Calgary surrounded by his family. Win was born April 2nd, 1936 in Bassano to George and Cora Dawn Goudie. He was the youngest of eight children raised on the farm east of Bassano, which is now owned by Bobby Hale. Win attended the Burnbrea School (Corner of Highway 550 and Range Road 17-5) and later the school in Bassano. There are many stories of times spend after school with Bert Bell and Ken Pickett. Win worked with his Dad and his brothers on the farm, where much of the work was done with horses. In 1951, Win rode from Bassano to the Drumheller area to work the summer on Tom Peake’s Ranch on the Red Deer River. He also spent many good times at the Tommy Pickett Ranch. On January 1, 1955 Win married Kay Royer. Win and Kay moved to Rimbey, where Win worked for a fuel Co-op. They welcomed daughter Linda. The little family moved back to the Bassano area in 1957. Win worked for ranchers and farmers in the area. Jerry was born in 1957 and Cheryl in 1959. Win was a Cowboy at heart and in 1959 he cut the horn off his saddle and entered the Rodeo at Patricia. For 10 years Win went to Rodeos in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Idaho and Montana. Win rode saddle broncs, bulls and his beloved horse, Leo in the dogging. In 1964, he won the All Round Cowboy at Swift Current. In l969 Win, Kay, Linda, Jerry and Cheryl along with Lawrence Lamb, fellow saddle bronc rider travelled to New York City to contest the Rodeo in Madison Square Gardens. Win bought the acreage south of Gem in 1961, where he operated the Centennial Garage, drove cream routes for Foothills Creamy, hauled livestock and worked the rigs in the winter. Win was an active member of the Gem Community. In 1971, Win partnered with Henry Janzen to form Harwin Transport Ltd. They worked together until 1975. Then Win purchased a new backhoe and Crawling Valley Contractors was incorporated. For 35 years Win, along with valued employees, built water systems, sewer systems and installed gas lines throughout the area. He installed services for three mobile home parks and built his own Park in Rosemary in 1999. In 1983, Win married Glenda and welcomed Jason as his son. This began 39 happy years of managing Crawling Valley Contractors, spending time with family and friends, welcoming grandchildren and great grandchildren to the family.  Many wonderful trips were made to the NFR, Nevada, Arizona and Montana. Win and Glenda retired in 2012 and moved back to Bassano. Win is survived by his wife, Glenda; daughter Linda Scheibner (Glen) and their sons, Carl (Samantha), Derek (Vanessa), and Lawrence (Kayley); son Jason, former daughter-in-law Connie and their children Tegan and Garrett; Jerry’s sons, Duane (Mona), Jonas (Renee); thirteen great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; sister-in-law Margo MacLean (Harry Hanlan).
