GENERT – Irene (Link) Genert, beloved wife of Michael Genert, passed away in Bassano on Aug. 24, 2023.
She was born in Shaunesy, Alberta on June 20, 1930 to Isador and Mary Link and three older siblings.
The family moved to Duchess and then to Rainier, where they settled.
Irene loved horses and had many exciting times riding with her brothers.
She met her husband Mike Genert after he had left the army. It was love at first sight! They married 6 months later on Nov. 6, 1948 in the Catholic church in Brooks.
Two children were born to this happy union; Joanne and Jack (Gay), two grandchildren, Connie and Christopher (Barbara), and three great grandchildren, Paige, Quinn, and Maddison.
Alberta held many opportunities for the Genert family. Mike was in construction and was also a heavy equipment operator. Wherever they had chose to live, Irene made many friends. She was a wonderful homemaker who liked to cook, bake, can, and make pickles. She gardened, and picked berries. Her favourite sport was hunting with Mike and she also loved to fish.
Irene was predeceased by her parents, Isador and Mary Link, her husband Mike, two infant sisters, as well as siblings Andy, Mike, Kate, Alec, Steve, Jim and Wes.
Irene’s laughter, smile, hugs, and kisses will be forever missed.
A funeral service for Irene will be held on September 9, 2023 at 11am at Smiths Funeral Chapel.
