Freundl– Gerald Douglas Freundl of Brooks, beloved husband of Yvonne Freundl, passed away in Brooks on Friday, September 13th, 2024 at the age of 86 years. Gerald was born on May 13th, 1938 in Lampman, Saskatchewan. His journey began humbly. After leaving school in grade 8, he worked on the farm before venturing to Medicine Hat, Alberta, at the age of 16. There, he took his first job at a flour mill, followed by various other positions. Gerald’s path then led him to Brooks, Alberta, where he met the love of his life, Yvonne Buteau. They married on May 30th, 1959. Gerald was a man of many talents and occupations. He worked in construction, drilling rigs, and wireline services. His passion for bees led him to collaborate with Bob Asher, where he learned the intricacies of beekeeping. This eventually blossomed into farming and a leaf cutter bee business, as well as the Gold Medal Seed Cleaning Plant. Notably, Gerald played a significant role in introducing leaf cutter bees to Canada. Gerald Freundl’s life was a testament to love, family, and resilience. His journey from humble beginnings to a life filled with love, hard work, and innovation serves as an inspiration to us all. Gerald leaves behind a legacy of love and fond memories. Gerald was predeceased by his parents, Earl and Mary Freundl; brothers Barry and Louis Freundl and sisters Norma Kuntz and her husband Al, as well as Maxine Melanson. He is survived by his devoted wife, Yvonne Freundl, who stood by his side through all of life’s trials and triumphs; children, Gerry Freundl and Kelly Williams her husband Ken; grandchildren, Dru Hankel and her husband Zane, Joshua Freundl and his wife Kristen, Mitchell Freundl, and Dominique Grundy and her husband Neil; great-grandchildren, Grayson Grundy, Jaxon Grundy, Elisabeth Grundy, and Benson Grundy; brother Bobby Freundl and his wife Lynn, as well as his sisters Judy with her husband Jack Freeborn, Marge Freundl-Chamney, Betty Briltz with her husband Gerry, Lenore Neal and aunt Carol Freundl. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 27th at 1:00 PM from the Heritage in and Convention Centre. Pastor Garth Everett officiating.
