    EDWARDS, Bernice

    December 15, 1927 ~ February 16, 2020

Bernice Edwards passed away peacefully in Calgary on February 16, 2020 with quiet grace. She leaves to mourn her passing, her four children; Terence, Curtis, Marilyn Shannon (Ron), and Bruce (Adele), her nine grandchildren; Aaron Edwards, Shawn Edwards (Trish), Joel Edwards (Gurine), Jesse Hansen, Amy Shannon (Matt), Kimberly Hausauer (Derek), Christina Miller (Jesse), Diana Grewal (Kal), Matthew Edwards, her nine great grandchildren, 3 sisters, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband; John Roderick Edwards, her daughter; Wendy Edwards, her parents; Helmer and Ingeborg (Emma) Hansen, brothers; Herman, Sylvan and Norman Hansen, and sister; Ruth Kuhl.

Bernice was born near Duchess Alberta in 1927. One of eight children born to Helmer and Emma Hansen, she had a happy childhood playing with her many siblings and cousins and helping out on the farm. She loved school and attended nearby Clancy School, a 2-room schoolhouse with about 60 kids, and excelled at writing essays, winning a trip to Edmonton for Farm Young People’s Week at the University of Alberta. She had a few jobs, working at a coffee shop and at the Bethany nursing home in Calgary where she enjoyed being with the seniors. She married Rod at the age of 23 and they left for their new life in Edmonton. Though Rod undertook many business ventures over the years, they stayed true to their country roots raising horses, cattle, sheep, chickens and hay; their children each doing their part to help out. Mom had a very sweet nature and a gentle soul. She loved art, writing, playing the piano and bringing her family together for big dinners. Her sweet smile will be greatly missed but the love she showed us all will stay with us forever.
