DYCK – HELEN DYCK
October 31, 1923 to January 17, 2019.
Helen Dyck, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away in Taber, AB. at the age of 95 years.
She is survived by her son, Gary (Rae) Dyck of Cochrane, daughter Vionne (Nick) Salonka of Brooks, daughter Leanne (Mario) Workes of Taber, and son Greg (Janet) Dyck of Duchess as well as ten grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Helen is predeceased by all twelve of her siblings.
Helen was born in 1923 near Beaver Flat, Saskatchewan to homesteaders Cornelius and Katherine Friesen. As a young adult she found work in the household of a nearby ranch where she met Peter Dyck, a ranch hand who also worked there. They married in 1946 and after moving a number of times, eventually settled in Duchess, Alberta where Helen held various jobs. She was a hard worker who always did everything to the best of her ability. She spent countless hours with her children and grandchildren helping in any way she could. She was a diligent gardener and took great delight in her flowers and vegetable garden. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing and quilting.
Most of all Helen loved the Lord, her family, her church family and her many friends. She was and is much loved in return.
In her later years Helen moved to Brooks and then eventually to Taber to a senior care facility so her daughter could better care for her. There she gained yet another family – the care providers and other residents. Even in her last difficult days she would light up when visitors arrived and maintained a positive attitude, always insisting it could be worse.
We will miss her but we know that mom is at last with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We will carry her love for each one of us and the many values she taught us in our hearts forever. We rejoice knowing she is safe in the arms of Jesus.
A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at the Evangelical Free Church, 625 – 8th Street W., Brooks, AB. on January 24 at 2 pm. 04P
