Duby – We say farewell to “our Mom” Audrey Lorraine Elizabeth Duby (nee Clarke) December 29, 1930 – February 6, 2022. A most loving, caring, kind and honourable woman. Mom was born on a small farm in North Pine, B.C. – not far from Fort St. John B.C. She was the oldest of 8 children. Her only employment outside of the “home” was as a “house girl” on a ranch owned by Tommy and Alvina Wilde. She met our father that first year, just out of high school, married and had 3 baby girls before her 21st birthday. The next year they moved to Scandia – 1000 miles from home when the only means of communication was letter writing. Together they had 6 children: Joyce, Joanne, Linda, Ed, Lorrie and Craig. She was a busy mom raising 6 children in a day and age when dads didn’t participate in child care. Mom grew a huge garden – canned and froze vegetables, kept a herd of milk cows – milking “by hand”, raising chickens and selling eggs, churning butter for local sale, selling cream, raising “bum” lambs and “pail bunter” calves for extra cash. They bought their own farm in 1965, built a herd of beef cattle, growing potatoes and hay for many years. Mom contributed much to the success of their business. Widowed in 1993, Mom continued to live in the country until 2012, when she moved to Brooks. The last 10 years have been difficult due to chronic pain and Dementia. Mom was predeceased by her husband Arthur 1993, and by daughter Lorrie 2013. She is survived by her five children, thirteen grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren. Curling, fishing, gardening and cooking (oh my how she loved desserts) filled her spare time. In Mom’s own quiet way she guided her children to “good values in life” and “always have faith – that’s not something that lives in a church pew it lives in your heart!” On raising children she said “always lead by example not by criticism.” May heaven welcome a true “angel of a woman”. We would like to Thank the staff at Sunrise Gardens, who have made the last 7 years of our Mom’s life “bearable” and to those staff who went the extra mile in her care we are so grateful. For those of you who knew “our Mom” there will be no public funeral. Please remember Audrey in your thoughts and the ways you interacted with her in the past 91 years.
