    Christman –

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Valerie Christman.  On the afternoon of December 6th, 2023, surrounded by her loving husband and children, she slipped away to be with her Saviour Jesus, ending her determined battle against cancer.  Valerie was the second of four children to Harold and Leona MacDonald.  She lived in Terasse Vaudreuil from 1955-1963 and Pincourt from 1963-1975, later in various other places in Quebec, moving back home for short periods.  She attended Concordia University where she met her beloved, John.  Valerie received her Graduate Diploma in Education from Bishop’s University, subsequently teaching a short while in Quebec.  John and Valerie married on August 11th, 1979 and moved to Brooks shortly thereafter to pursue their teaching careers.  She taught at Eastbrook Elementary until she had children and decided to homeschool them, dedicating countless hours to their education.  After her three children were grown, she resumed working outside the home, teaching English as a Second Language at BCALC and JBS.  Valerie was a devout follower of the Lord, serving Him and the people around her with kindness and selflessness.  She exemplified God’s love, remaining steadfast and faithful through her last days.  Valerie was predeceased by her parents.  She is survived by her husband John, sons Jay (Jessica), Paul (Mareissa), and daughter Andrea (Cody), grandchildren Sophia, Ivy, Olivia, Theodore, Elliott and Clara, as well as her brothers Don (Heidi), Jay, sister Laurie (Erik), and numerous nieces and nephews.  The family thanks all who have been so supportive in various ways through this challenging time, especially Dr. Andrew Daly at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre for his expert and compassionate medical strategies, and all hospital staff caring for Valerie during her health struggles.  The date for a Celebration of Life will be announced in the spring.
