It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our beloved father Russell “Lloyd” Chorney. He was 69 years old. Lloyd was born in Lamont, Alberta in 1950 and raised on the farm outside of Radway, Alberta by his mother Rose, and father Andrew Chorney, along with three brothers, Victor, Leonard and Ronnie. He spent his childhood on the banks of the river and working the fields alongside his father and brothers. He spent a short time in his younger years overseas in Israel working off shore, a time he spoke fondly about. He met Marie in Calgary between stints of “workin’ in the bush”. They were married in 1974 in Brooks Alberta, and they planted their roots where they built their family a home in Duchess Alberta in 1976/77. They had two children, Colin Russell in November of 1977, followed by Carrie Rosanne in April of 1981. His working years were spent with the Eastern Irrigation District, Alberta Gas Trunkline, Nova Gas Corporation and TransCanada Pipeline. In retirement, after an already long career, he started his own business called Calcutta Services which he ran for 10 years. His free time was spent on the golf course, throwing in a hook and line and hunting with friends and family. He enjoyed coffee with the boys at the automotive shop and visits on the deck with his good friends. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, coaching softball and little league. He enjoyed a quiet retirement of travel to Mexico, Costa Rica and Cuba. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle and friend. He is survived by his spouse of 43 years and friend, Marie Chorney (Beck), his loving children Colin (Nichole Fiorito) Chorney, Carrie (Cory) Thibert, his grandchildren Eva Chorney, Tate and Wynne Thibert, brothers Victor (Alina) Chorney, Leonard (Judy) Chorney and Ronald (Sylvia) Chorney and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Rose Ann and father Andrew Chorney of Redwater, Alberta. A memorial and celebration of his life will be held at Thom’s Funeral Home and Reception Centre in Duchess, Alberta on Thursday, October 3 at 2 pm. In memory of Lloyd, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes can be made to a local charity of choice.
