CHAREST – Omer Charest
1945-2024
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Andre Omer Charest, beloved husband of Bev Charest, in Brooks on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at the age of 78 years.
Omer was born May 9, 1945 in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan and spent many of his growing-up years in Dollard, Saskatchewan and then Rolling Hills, Alberta. He married Beverly June Aitchison on February 19, 1966 and they settled in Brooks, Alberta.
Omer began his adulthood as a mechanic and his passion for vehicles started. He later nurtured his skill for woodworking, as evidenced by his workmanship on many projects throughout his career as a cabinet maker. Omer also loved antique tractors and cars and was proud of his restoration work, which he enjoyed sharing with others.
Omer loved to travel with his family and enjoyed camping, too. Most recently, he spent much of his free time meeting up with coffee buddies and some of his closest friends.
As new generations were added to his family, Omer enjoyed getting to see them. When the great-grandchildren came to visit, he especially lit up.
Omer was predeceased by his father, Fernand Nazarre Joseph Charest, his mother, Laurencia Marie Lesperance, his sister, Helen Kam (Charest), and great grand-daughters, Olivia Pierson and Odette Jennissen.
Omer is survived by his wife, Bev Charest (Aitchison), sisters Ida (Roy) Hagg, Gladys (Richard) Harty, Val (Monfred) Haag, Pauly (Henry) Holst, brother-in-law Joe Kam, daughters, Maureen (Greg) Jennissen, Celine (Robert) Rodgers, grandchildren Jordanna (Brad) Pierson, Danton (Megan) Rodgers, Kelton (Jade) Jennissen, Iescha (Jordon) Bandura and great-grandchildren Houston, Tucker, and Tesla Rodgers, Kenzlie Matyka, Lincoln and Eliza Pierson, and Parker and Carter Bandura.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Roman Catholic Church at 511 4 St W, Brooks, AB.
