Chapple – Henry Louis Lawrence Chapple of Brooks, beloved husband of Roberta Chapple, passed away suddenly at home in Brooks on Saturday, January 18th, 2020 at the age of 78 years. Henry was born in High Prairie, Alberta on December 6th, 1941 and was the eldest of 5 children. He spent his youth in Rose Prairie, British Columbia and then moved to the dorms, while he attended High School in Fort St. John, British Columbia. Henry applied to and was accepted in 1961 to join the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. He completed Basic Training in Ottawa in 1962 and proudly spent 14 years as a member of the RCMP, serving in many detachments all over Alberta. He met Roberta Macaulay in 1962 and they were married on November 21st, 1964 in North Vancouver. Henry began a 38 year career in the oil and gas industry, in 1978. He was an incredibly hard worker and valued employee, who never once took a sick day. Henry was a family man who loved to garden, was a master wood worker, enjoyed a good game of crib, never complained and rarely said no to anyone. He was an armchair critic of figure skating, having faithfully watched the sport since 1966. Henry took extreme pride in his children and grandchildren. He taught them to whittle, to select quality tools, to love camping and to be patient. Henry was a quiet and gentle man who was always smiling, he was never a big talker, but when he did, every story he told was one you wanted to listen to. He had a life-long love affair with wood working, beginning with homemade Christmas decorations on the lawn and roof of their homes that won prizes and impressed, not only his wife and children, but the neighbors too. Henry truly excelled at making the grandchildren’s most beloved toys, beginning with rocking horses, wooden trains and customized 3 story dollhouses, to kitchen sets, canoe bookshelves, and the most remarkable items including barns, a French Patisserie and a Hawaiian Hut. He was predeceased by his parents, Woodrow and Marcella Chapple and brothers, Grant and Gordon Chapple. Henry is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Robbie Chapple; son, Cameron Chapple of Calgary and his children Chloe of Calgary and Megan of Kelowna, British Columbia; daughter Darcey (Duane) Kubinchak and their children, Josh, Sydney and Cole all of Coronation; daughter Carrie (David) White and their children Aleigha and Cohen of Calgary; son Rodney (Lacy) Chapple and their children Grayson and Blakely all of Sylvan Lake; siblings, Jim (Chris) Chapple of Lacombe and Doreen (Jerry) Netolicky of West Vancouver; sisters-in-law Sandra Chapple of Fort St. John and Barbara (Ron) Crabtree of Lynden, Washington and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 23rd at 4:00 PM from Smith Memorial Chapel. Rev. Esther Crews officiated. In memory of Henry, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to a charity of choice.
