BUDAY – It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of Elizabeth Dorothy Buday (Vekasi) at the age of 88 ears in Brooks on January 1, 2023.
Elizabeth was born on a ranch near Red Cliff, Alberta on August 17, 1934. The family moved to the One Tree Area (Brooks) in 1936. She was raised on the family farm and was fully immersed in every element of working the farm from a young age.
In 1955 she married John G. Buday and together with their family actively ran a ranching, feedlot and grain farming operation in the Tilley area. They enjoyed travels to the U.S.A frequently.
Elizabeth was a strong and resilient woman. She was kind, generous and always ready to lend a hand to those around her, generously donating time and resources to numerous community organizations though out her lifetime and has a legacy of highlights: Inducted into the 4-H Hall of Fame 1992, President of Alberta 4-H Council 1986 – 1989, Alberta 4-H Regional and Provincial Council 1982 – 1992 (4-H Leader for 26 years). She held various Executive positions within the Tilley Community (REC Board, Hall Board, Country Club, Home & School), Lifetime member of order of Royal Purple, 35 plus years, Brooks RCMP Municipal Planning Commission, Subdivision and development appeal board and Tourism Committee.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband John of 57 years, parents Peter and Ann Vekasi and infant sisters Annie and Irene.
She is survived by her children: daughter Betty Anne (Duane) Elliott, son John (Amy), daughter Marian and son Edward. Grandchildren; Lindsay (James) Kary, Michelle Buday, Stacy (Bas) Van der Kooij, Jolene (Joh) Hillson, Amy (Karmen)Siemens and Mitchell. Seven great grand children and her brother John (Leanne) Vekasi and cousin Irene (Joe) Ruszvanski and their children as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
As per her wishes, there will be no formal public services.
