    BOTHI, Steven C.

    October 19, 1950 – January 14, 2019

Nearly 10 years after losing the love of his life, Steven Carl Bothi joined her in peace on January 14, 2019.  Steve was born in Brooks, Alberta where he grew up with his Hungarian immigrant grandparents on the family’s irrigated farm.  Just shy of completing his degree at the University of Alberta in 1972, Steve fell in love with Lynda and rushed off to what became their homestead in Bassano for a fulfilling life of dryland grain farming.  In the early years, Steve farmed alongside his father, Steve Sr.  The operation continued to flourish with Lynda running the farming business with Steve, hand-in-hand.  Over the years, Steve dedicated himself to leadership and public service with a passion to strengthen his agricultural community.  He served as a delegate for the Alberta Wheat Pool for several years, and worked tirelessly to advocate and celebrate Canada’s grain industry throughout his career.  He felt particular pride working to strengthen the Bassano Rural Fire Protection Association to keep his friends and neighbours safe.  After retiring from farming and relocating to Strathmore in 2004, Steve and Lynda enjoyed traveling and local activities.  Steve went on to lead and serve on many boards of directors, including the Pioneer Gas Co-op Ltd., Federation of Alberta Gas Co-ops Ltd., Alberta One-Call Corporation, and Grain Academy & Museum Society.  He treasured comradery and motorcycle adventures through the Calgary Red Knights Motorcycle Club, and spoke of them fondly long after he stopped riding.  Steve will be dearly missed by his two pride and joys, son Steven of Grande Prairie, AB and daughter Kimberly (Jason) of Lincoln University, PA.  He is also survived by his brother Ernest, his sister Rosemary, and many cousins, family and friends across western Canada.  The family has requested a private internment to take place at Mountain View Memorial Gardens.  In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations in his name to one of his two favorite Alberta treasures: the Grain Academy & Museum in Calgary, AB or Stars Air Ambulance.
