Beny – It is with sadness that we announce the passing of William (Bill) Roy Beny, on January 4, 2023. Bill was born on April 4, 1938, to parents Roy and Emma in Medicine Hat, Alberta, during a spring snowstorm. Bill grew up in Brooks, Alberta where his father Roy had established a General Motors dealership (Modern Auto). In his youth, Bill enjoyed playing sports, especially baseball. Bill worked alongside his father Roy at Modern Auto until Roy passed away. Bill married Jeanne Marie Vig on November 26, 1959, in Red Deer, Alberta. During their 63-year marriage, they lived in Brooks and Bill took over the reins at the dealership, which he successfully operated until his retirement in 2000. Bill and Jeanne had two children, Cynthia Lee (Cindy), born in 1963 and William Kenton (Kent), born in 1965. Bill was a devoted husband and father. The employees at Modern Auto had become Bill’s second family, with company gatherings at the many BarBQ’s at Bill and Jeanne’s cottage at Lake Newell, where Bill enjoyed summers with family. Bill was an avid aviator. As a young man he earned his pilot license, after which he capitalized on every excuse to be up in the air, eventually owning his own aircraft, flying family and friends to various locales. Bill also inspired Jeanne and Kent to attain their pilot licenses. Bill was an active member of Brooks and surrounding community, serving as President of the Brooks Chamber of Commerce, participating in the Brooks Kinsmen and then K-40’s. Bill also supported local children’s sports teams. Bill was predeceased by his parents, Roy and Emma, and his only sibling, Carroll. Bill is survived by his wife Jeanne, daughter Cindy (Malcolm), son Kent (Irene), Cindy and Malcolm’s children: son Taylor (Sam), daughter Nicola (Corwin), son Todd (Shayla), Kent’s son Jonathan, sister-in-law Suzie Wiese, as well as many special cousins, nieces and nephews. We would like to thank all friends and extended family for their words of love and support, also, the staff at the Brooks Health Centre and beyond, who gave him such good care, and made him comfortable in his final days. For this, we are eternally grateful. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice or the Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories at 10430-61 Ave NW #306, Edmonton, Alberta T6H 2J3.
