Baksa – Elizabeth (Liz) Baksa of Brooks, beloved wife of the late James Baksa, passed away in Brooks on Sunday, March 3rd, 2019 at the age of 88 years. Liz was born in Estevan, Saskatchewan on May 30th, 1930 to Jim and Katherine Hajash. She moved to the Duchess area with her parents and siblings in 1935, and then to the One Tree area east of Brooks in 1939. Liz married James Baksa of Tilley on October 23rd, 1948. She and Jim farmed and raised their family in the Brooks and One Tree area. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved nothing more than to spend time with her family. She especially enjoyed the summer outings to Steveville to picnic and pick Saskatoon berries and chokecherries along the river bank with all of her family. After her children started their own families, Liz kept her house full of love by rounding up her grandchildren – there was always a herd of them over at Grandma’s. She enjoyed the time she spent with her grandkids watching movies, playing board games, and playing cards. Liz was an amazing baker, and she enjoyed teaching some of her grandchildren how to bake her special family recipes. Liz was a life member of the OORP, was a member of the CWL and the FWA, and sang in the St. Mary’s funeral choir for many years. She was predeceased by her husband, Jim, in 2011, 5 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. Liz is survived by her children Jim (Marg), Randy (Cory), Mick (Susan) all of Brooks, Rob (Carol) of Evansberg, Alberta, and Kathy (Gord) Olsen of Brooks; 15 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren, and 5 great, great grandchildren, as well as her sister-in-law Jacqueline Hajash and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 9th at 11:00 AM from St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Rev. Marino Infante officiating. Interment followed at Brooks Cemetery. In memory of Liz, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to Diabetes Canada, 1510 – 2nd Avenue South, Lethbridge, Alberta T1J 0G1.
