Austman – Linda May Austman of Brooks, beloved wife of Kris Austman, passed away at the Peter Lougheed Centre, Calgary on January 17th, 2022, at the age of 75.  She was born on May 16th, 1946, in Brooks, AB to Earl and Virginia Hofmann of Scandia, AB as the fifth of seven children.  Raised on the family farm in Scandia, she attended the Jenny Lind School there and finished grade 12 at the Rolling Hills School.  Linda married Kristjan Austman on November 18th, 1972, and they shared a loving marriage for 49 years at her passing.  In her younger years, Linda had worked at Haliburton in Calgary.  Geology and rocks were her strong interest, and she made many beautiful pieces of stone jewelry.  After retiring, Linda and Kris moved to Brooks in 1996, after living in Calgary for many years.  They wanted to be out of the city and to live closer to the farm and to family.  They built a home in Westland Acres and enjoyed the peace and quiet of living on this acreage.  Taking care of her yard and garden gave her a huge sense of pride.  She loved her community and was passionate about politics.  In the last twenty plus years, Linda was an avid quilter.  She spent countless hours making quilts for family, friends, for raffles and for donations to Quilts of Valor.  Previously, Linda enjoyed long walks with Kris and Peanut the dog.  She was a curler, a musician, the Avon Lady in the family and known for being very generous with her donations to various charities.  Linda and Kris enjoyed travelling with their truck and fifth wheel throughout the US and Canada going south during the cold winter months.  Linda was predeceased by her parents, Earl and Virginia Hofmann, her brothers George and Harvey Hofmann, her sister Lorraine Kehler, brothers-in-law Victor (Roxsyna) Prebushewski, James (Eileen) Rowney, Andrew (Virginia-Faye) McIntyre, nephews Earl Prebushewski and Stephen Hofmann.  From the Austman side of the family, Linda is predeceased by her brothers-in-law John Austman, Philip (Melvina) Austman and Lloyd (Christine) Austman, and her sisters-in-law Mary and Esther Austman.  Linda will be remembered for her creativity, intelligence, her story telling and sense of humour, her smile and generosity.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.  Rest in Peace.  Linda is survived by her beloved husband, Kris Austman, her sisters, Roxsyna Prebushewski, Eileen Rowney, Virginia-Faye McIntyre and numerous nieces and nephews who love her very much.  A Family Funeral Service were held at Smith Memorial Chapel on Friday, January 21st, 2022 at 1:00 PM.  Interment followed at the Scandia Cemetery.  If friends and family desire, a memorial tribute can be made directly to the charity of your choice or your local animal shelter.
