Ivan James Atchison

September 23,1946 – May 3, 2025

Dad was born on September 23, 1946, In Souris, Manitoba, the fourth child of Carl and Mary Atchison.  He spent his youth growing up on the family farm “Poplarview Stock Farm” in Findlay, Manitoba.

In 1965, Dad headed west to Alberta to work in the oilpatch.  He ended up in Brooks, Alberta where he pursued a career in Welding and graduated from SAIT in 1967.  It was during these two years that Dad met Mom and they were married on November 12, 1966.  They went on to have two children, Kevin and Kellie Atchison.

In 1980, Dad struck out on his own and eventually started up three companies- Big I Construction, Double K Piledrivers and Big I Inspection.  In 2000, Dad and Mom retired and moved to Red Deer to be closer to their kids and grandkids.

Dad and mom spent over twenty years camping and fishing at Pine Lake, where many strong friendships were formed.  If a camper needed a part for anything they were told “go see Ivan, he’s probably got one or can make one”.  The grandkids spent countless hours with Dad and Mom and none of them could have been happier.

Dad leaves to mourn his son Kevin (Kathy) Atchison and their two boys Daniel (Haley Ehl) and Matthew (Jayde Watts), his daughter Kellie Atchison and her three daughters Brittany Schepp (Dan Murray), Cassy Gramlich (Ryan Gramlich) and Dakota Schepp (James Driscoll).  Dad is also survived by his “Three little gangsters” Sullivan, Agatha and Blakely Gramlich.  He is survived by his siblings Lloyd, Garry, Wilma and Orville, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Dad was predeceased by his parents Carl and Mary Atchison and the love of his life Alice Atchison in 2009.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
