Arsenault – Vitaline ‘Vita’ Cecilia Arsenault (nee Gionette) of Claresholm, Alberta formerly of Bassano, Alberta and beloved wife of the late Clarence Arsenault, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 15th, 2019 in Calgary, Alberta at 85 years of age. Vita was born in Blind River Ontario on December 27th, 1933, the youngest child of Patrick and Rosalie Gionette. When she was 16, she went to live with her sister Celina in Toronto where she met and fell in love with Clarence. They married on December 4th, 1954 and moved back to Blind River to raise their family. In 1998, after Clarence retired, they made the big move to Alberta and settled in Bassano. Clarence predeceased her in 2010 and in 2015, after 18 happy years in Bassano, Vita downsized and moved to a senior’s residence in Claresholm, where she joined the community at Parkside. Some of her favourite things to do were thrift store shopping, playing cribbage, going to church, reading Louis L’Amour westerns and visiting her daughter in Calgary. Vita was predeceased by her parents Patrick and Rosalie Gionette, her brothers Ned, George and Pat and her sisters Melvina, Lillian, Celina and Rosan. Vita was proud of her children Paulie (Ray), Annette, David, Dan (Allison), Jennifer (Gerry), Theresa (Ivan) and Peter. She was a proud grandmother and great grandmother. She was also proud of her Acadian heritage dating back to the 1700’s. Vita was fiercely independent, strong willed and devoted to her faith. She will be deeply missed. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 4th at 11:00 AM from St. Columba Catholic Church, Bassano. Rev. Long Vu Celebrant. Interment to follow at Bassano Cemetery. In memory of Vita, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to St. Columba Catholic Church, Box 204, Cluny, Alberta T0J 0S0.
