ARMSTRONG – Irene Evelyn Armstrong (Young), wife to the late Mac Armstrong and Norman L Young, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2024 in her Sunrise home with family by her side at the age of 95 years. Irene was born November 29th,1928 in Calgary, Alberta, where she was raised as a only child to Archibald and Reta Ferguson.
During her early years, she attended business school and completed her accounting diploma. She was an accomplished concert pianist at the jubilee auditorium, she was a member of the Royal Conservatory Of Music and also the Past President (member) of the Rebekah’s Lodge for Alberta.
She married the love of her life Norman Young in 1949 at the United Church in Brooks, Alberta. They unselfishly committed their lives to raising 4 adoptive children, Norman, Reta, Stewart and Mary on the Long Range Dairy Farm north of Brooks on the duchess highway.
Irene’s hands were rarely still. Her love of gardening, cooking, baking, playing the piano, and attending all grand children’s sporting events will be what she will be remembered by the most. Staying at the cottage (Lake Newell) during summers with her grandchildren and family was her highlight. Irene, enjoyed travelling to Hawaii, Africa and Europe. She dearly loved hosting fabulous dinner parties, with her friends, and travelling south on ladies golf trips during the winter months. Irene, spent many winters on the West Coast with her late husband Mac Armstrong. Irene, was a lady whom loved life to the fullest. There wasn’t anything this incredible woman couldn’t do, and never complained about a thing.

Great Grand children: Jayce Rasmuson, Brooke Rasmuson, Zane Rasmuson, Landon Movold, Callen Movold, Kathleen Cheney, Henry Cheney
Step Mother to: Greg (Sue), Debbie (Doug), Brenda (Wayne) and children, and along with many nieces and nephews.
