Anderson – Ian M. Anderson of Brooks, beloved husband of the late Margaret Anderson, passed away in Brooks on Monday, February 27th, 2023 at the age of 85 years. Ian was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta on May 31st, 1937 to Nels and Leah Anderson of Tilley, Alberta. He grew up in Tilley, where his father operated an IHC farm machinery dealership business. Ian attended Tilley School through to high school and assisted his father at the dealership. As a young man he was active in the community as a Boy Scout and a Calgary Herald paper boy. He attended SAIT in Calgary, graduating with his Light Duty Mechanic certificate and was then employed at Modern Auto in Brooks for a number of years. Later, Ian decided to expand his abilities and again attended SAIT where he graduated with his Heavy Duty Mechanics Certificate. He was employed by the County of Newell for a number of years as a Heavy Duty Mechanic. Ian moved to Medicine Hat in 1975, where he was employed by the Alberta Department of Highways. While in Medicine Hat, Ian met and married Margaret Hansen. Ian retired from the Alberta Department of Highways in 1992 so he and Margaret were able to enjoy travelling and other activities. He visited many places in the U.S.A, along with trips to Britain, Sweden and Denmark. Following Margaret’s passing in 2016, Ian moved back to Brooks and took up residence at the Newbrook Lodge, where he met many new friends and enjoyed a number of years of quiet retirement. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret, nephew Donald, and brother Don. Ian is survived by his brothers Peter (Betty), Leigh (Linda) and Robin (Pat); sister Connie (Rick); sister-in-law Judy; nieces and nephews Roxann, Michelle, Todd, Margo, Ian, Rob, Kris, Neil, and Leah; 13 great grand nieces and nephews, and cousins Pam James and Bob Burns. The family would especially like to thank the staff at Newbrook Lodge, Brooks Homecare, Tammy Fowler at Helping Hands, Dr. Muller and Karen at Centennial Health, and Joel at Smith Funeral Home. In memory of Ian, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to BAPS, Box 86, Brooks, Alberta T1R 1B2. A Graveside Service will be held at a later date.
