Affleck – After battling an illness over the past year, Brenda Lynn Affleck suddenly passed away at home in Bassano, Alberta on January 4th, 2022 at the age of 54.  She leaves behind her beloved husband Brian Ellis; stepdaughters, Delaney and Brett Ellis; grandson Isiah; mother Sharon Tucker; aunt Arlene Tucker; brother Warren (Yvonne) Affleck; mother-in-law Joan Ellis; sisters-in-law Bonnie (David) and Connie (Don); brother-in-law Nelson (Jacquie), along with nieces and nephews, cousins and a great many friends.  She was predeceased by her father Robert, father-in-law Gordon, as well as grandparents Cyril and Anna Tucker and George and Evelyn Affleck.  Brenda was born April 29th, 1967 in Calgary to parents Robert and Sharon and baby sister to brother Warren.  The family would move to Brooks, Alberta in 1981.  Brenda graduated from Brooks Composite High School in 1985 and would enroll in the Social Work program at the University of Calgary, earning a bachelor’s degree.  She would later return to U of C and complete her Master’s in social work.  After several years of working in Red Deer and Barrhead, Alberta, Brenda returned to Brooks to take a position and once again become part of the community.  She would lead several initiatives and sit on many committees all while helping clients and co-workers whenever she was asked. It was in Brooks she would meet Brian Ellis and the two soon became inseparable.  Brian quickly nicknamed Brenda “Sunshine” and it was evident to everyone that she lit up Brian’s life as much as he did hers.  The couple would often jet away to a tropical island to spend Christmas Holidays where it was warm.  It was on one of those tropical getaways that Brenda and Brian tied the knot, becoming husband and wife.  The tropical trips would take a backseat when their grandson, Isiah came to live with them, but that just meant the trips would be different.  Summer weekends were often spent at Crawling Valley and touring around on the pontoon boat.  Early on the boat earned the nickname “The Hillbilly Houseboat”, and everyone just came to call it by that name going forward.  Everyone who remembers Brenda, thinks of her unwavering friendship, dedication to her family and friends, and a laugh that was most often described as infectious.  Brenda’s friends talk about her enjoying a glass of wine and some chicken wings all while enjoying spending time chatting and catching up with each other.  Brenda touched many lives, some briefly, and some for longer terms.  To say she will be missed is an incredible understatement.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donations directly to either Canadian Mental Health Association of Southeast Alberta, 204-1865 Dunmore Road SE, Medicine Hat, Ab.   T1A 1Z8 or The Brooks Animal Protection Society, Box 86, Brooks, Ab.   T1R 1B2 in Brenda’s name.  Funeral Services will be announced at a later date.
