The BCHL Brooks Bandits had their first loss of the season on Saturday against Blackfalds and they edged Sherwood Park Crusaders at home for the win on Sunday.
The three Blackfalds Bulldogs goals were all scored by the team’s three players who made the preliminary list of the NHL Players to Watch.
Jared Langdon opened the game’s scoring with a power play goal in the first stanza and he followed it in the second period with his second goal. Seventeen seconds later Bandits AJ Lacroix found the back of the Bulldogs net but that wasn’t enough.
The second period saw the Bulldogs earn a pair of goals including one from Alexander Dimitriadis and a power play from Aidan Souligny.
The Bandits attempted a third period comeback with a pair of their own goals from Liam Fitzpatrick and Jack Good as the clock ran down but the game ended at 4-3 for the Bulldogs.
On Oct. 19 the Bandits traded Jack Sullivan to the Bulldogs, however, he was not in Saturday’s line up.
With the loss behind them the Bandits took to home ice for a Sunday afternoon Halloween game.
Brooks opened the match with two goals in the first period from Nick Peluso and from Jack Rosensteel and moved into 3-1 lead in the second period with successful penalty shot from Brock Souch.
Also in the second period Poul Andersen of the Crusaders got his team’s first goal of the game which were followed by a pair of goals in the third period from Jeremy Loranger and Kale Dach.
Brooks’ final goal of the night came from Matej Teply to give the Bandits to win over the Crusaders 4-3.
Brooks’ Souch, who had a five minute penalty for fighting and a 10 minute game misconduct, along with Brec Christenson of the Crusaders, went on to earn the third star of the game.
The first two stars went to Bandits Teply and Johnny Hicks.
Last week NHL Central Scouting released their 2024-25 preliminary players to watch list. In addition to Sherwood Park’s Loranger, Dach and Andersen others listed are Shea Busch and Cooper Cleaves of the Vernon Vipers, Jaden Cholette of the Cranbrook Bucks, Max Heise of Penticton Vees, Drew Hockley of Victoria Grizzlies and Callum Hughes of West Kelowna Warriors.
No Bandits were named to the preliminary list.
