The Brooks Badgers atoms football team lost their final preseason game 19-7 last week against the Medicine Hat Ti-Cats.
The Badgers pre-season record was 2-1.
The Badgers are fired up for the regular season which begins this week as they compete as the defending league champions.
Pre-season touchdowns were credited to Josh Alimi, Kingston Bolt, Lars Maxwell-Lyster and Caden Testa.
Some of the leading tackers were Dallas Alberts, Kaiden Clarke and Westyn Hofmann.
“The Badgers have a promising group of linemen including veterans like Michael Calpas, Kort Helland and Kaine Metheral along with rookies Carter Cutler and Grayson Stogre,” said head coach Jerrod Maxwell-Lyster.
Joining the head coach are Blaine Hofmann, Joel Falkenberg and Shawn Calpas.
The members of the coaching staff all agree that this year’s Badgers team has the depth to repeat as champions as long as practices are productive to keep ‘the edge’.
For those who have been craving football but have not been able to travel to Medicine Hat to attend any game, the Badgers are holding a home game on Oct. 19 at 11 a.m.
Roadrunners
At the junior high level the Brooks Roadrunners continue with their winning streak.
On Thursday the team defeated the Medicine Hat Vikings 27-0 in three quarters.
Head coach Mark Freeman said the game was called following an injury to a player.
He said the Vikings, although a thin team in terms of numbers, play pretty hard but Brooks was able to play well.
“I was quite happy. They are where I want the team be offensively and defensively,” he said.
The team has a week off this week and will play their final regular season game on Oct. 17 against the Hawks.
The following week the Roadrunner will begin the first round of Rangeland league playoffs.

Buffalos
The Brooks Buffalos were defeated by W.R. Myers on Thursday.
The Buffalos were defeated 43-13.
The team has a bye this week and will travel to Claresholm on Oct. 18 to play Willow Creek.
