In addition to pathway construction at Lake Newell Resort, the county anticipates rehabilitating Blue Heron and White Pelican roads this summer.
Mark Harbicht, the county’s manager of municipal services, told council there will be impact to residents accessing their property during the road rehabilitation.
He said the roads have reached the end of life so the county will complete a road surface and structure replacement, upgrade curbs, gutters and swales and inspect the water curb stops.
Additional information on the road project will be discussed during an open house on March 26 at the county office between 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. or anyone with questions can contact the office at 403-794-2311.
Last week council agreed to go ahead with construction of the resort’s path at the resort despite an increase in the cost from $1 million to the approved bid of $1.560 million from Brooks Asphalt.
In addition to Brooks Asphalt, bids were received from Aecon Transportation at $1.837 million, Go Asphalt at $1.744 million and PME at $1.913 million.
The municipality had preferred to award the tender after receiving government approval to use Canada Community-Building Fund (CCBF) (aka gas tax) to cover the project overage.
However, with no word either way and the early March meeting as the final one to make a decision, council, by a recorded vote of 9-1, agreed to award Brooks Asphalt.
If the county does not get the okay to use CCBF funds, they will be taken from the infrastructure reserve. Those removed funds will not hold up or affect any other current project.
In the event that the grant funding does come through CAO Matt Fenske said the money will be used for another project under CCBF.
Division 7 councillor Ellen Unruh opposed the project.
