Hok – Kevin Peter Hok of Rosemary, Alberta, beloved husband of Diane Reiss, passed away in Rosemary on Wednesday, October 14th, 2020 at the age of 65 years. Kevin was born in Hanna, Alberta on December 23rd, 1954 to Peter and Betty Hok. He received his schooling in Spondin, Alberta to grade eight, before moving to Cereal, Alberta. Kevin left school in grade ten and started working at the race track in Calgary, as a groom boy, before moving up to a jockey. He rode in Calgary and Edmonton, where his love and knowledge of horses grew. Kevin bought a farm south of Cereal, where he raised wheat and cattle. After the birth of his children, he sold and bought a farm at Duchess and later moved to BC, where he started his passion for rodeo at the age of 34. Kevin worked as a Pickup Man, rode broncs, bulls and steer wrestling. He made the BC Rodeo Finals in two event three times and won IIRA three times and made the Indian finals three times. In the late 90’s he moved back to Alberta, where his rodeo career continued in the over 40 association. Kevin won bull riding five times, bronc riding five times, all around once, season leader 13 times in various events and ended up Reserve World Champion in bull riding. He served 13 years on the board of CSPRA as the Bull Riding Director. After 42 years of getting in rough stock he had to hang up his spurs and chaps, where his last ride was in 2014. Kevin was never sorry for those years, they defined who and what he was. Now his love was writing his own songs and playing music. Kevin and Diane started their lives together in 1999 and have been together ever since. Over the year he has worked various jobs, but his love was always writing songs and playing his guitar. Kevin is predeceased by his dad Peter Hok. Kevin is survived by his wife Diane Reiss; his children son, Cody (Kim) Hok and their children Gracelynn, Cheyanne and Cody, daughter, Cindy (Dannen) Hok and her children Robbie, Hunter, Kayla, Katie and Chace and the mother of his children, Carol; mother Betty Hok; Diane’s children, daughter Dana (James) Shepherd and their children Austin and Slade and daughter Shawna (Arland) Reiss and their children Harper, Nash and Kenzie; brothers, Ken (Val) Hok and Toby (Robin) Hok; sisters, Hanna (Greg) Hok, Patty (Brad) Merkl and Judy(Frank) Merkl and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his rodeo family. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
