Mr. Ysbrand Vander Linden died in his 85th year after a lengthy illness, on July 13, 2003.
He was born on the family homestead near Jenner, Alberta on April 5, 1919. He received his education in a country school in that area. After he left school he worked on the family farm until 1941, when the block of land on which their farm was located was expropriated. In 1942, he enlisted in the Canadian Army, serving overseas in an infantry unit. After returning from overseas in February of 1946 he came to Brooks where he worked on various farms. In 1947, he obtained work in a surface coal mine in the Bow City area doing various jobs in the mine and later operating heavy equipment in the mine. In 1952 he was married to Ethel Piehl. They lived in the Bow City area where they had their family: one son and two daughters. Early in their marriage, Ysbrand and Ethel also provided a home for two nieces, Donna (Allen Nielsen), and Deena (Don Hoveland).
Ysbrand was predeceased by an infant son, four half-brothers and one half-sister. He is survived by his wife Ethel, son Brent Vander Linden (Calgary, AB), daughter Alicia and Don Scheidegger (Diamond City, AB), daughter Marie Vander Linden, and Dale Seeman (Claresholm, AB); four grandsons, Andrew and Mark Vander Linden (Calgary), and Jarritt and Brady Seeman (Claresholm); three granddaughters, Breanna Seeman (Claresholm), and Casey and Jessie Scheidegger (Diamond City); one sister, Elizabeth Petersen (Lacombe, AB); and various nieces and nephews.
Ysbrand and Ethel lived in the Bow City area until 1984 when he retired and moved to Brooks, AB. In 2001, they moved to Claresholm, AB where he resided until his death.
At Ysbrands request no Funeral Service will be held.
