TIEGS – With heavy hearts the family of Alan John Tiegs, beloved husband of Sheila of Brooks, mourn his passing at the Foothills Hospital, Calgary on July 24th, 2003 in the presence of his family. Alan was born in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan on January 26th, 1927 and had attended Motherwell School. At the age of 11 years he moved with his family to the One Tree Area and attended Duchess and Brooks Schools. His working years began as a hired hand for his Uncle Ernie Pickett at Maple Creek, farming with his brother Ken, worked at Anderberg Equipment and served as Manager of the Brooks Savings and Credit Union for 23 years until retiring in 1985. He was active in many facets of the United Church serving on various boards and sang in the Choir for many years. Alan was Past Exalted Ruler of the Brooks Elks Lodge #77, served as Treasurer for the Brooks Historical and Museum Society and sang with the SPBSA (Barber shoppers) from Medicine Hat. He especially enjoyed curling in the Senior’s League, camping and golfing. Alan will be best remembered for being a gentle, loving man and for his kindness and great patience. He was predeceased by his parents Chris and Florence, his first wife Bessie and brother Donald. Alan is survived by his loving family, wife Sheila, daughter Heather Thomas and her husband Gary and their children Amanda, Harrison and Hailey of Calgary; daughter Victoria Roen and her husband Bill and their children Karin and Kelsey of Smithers, British Columbia; brothers and sisters Joyce (Jack) Shackleton of Lethbridge, Ken (Barbara) Tiegs of Lethbridge, Art (Marlene) Tiegs of Stettler, Lois (Peter) Petersen of Brooks, Eleanor (John) Penner of Taber and Barbara Tiegs of Westlock and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM on Monday, July 28th from Brooks United Church. Rev. George Edmonds officiated. Fraternal services were conducted by members of Brooks Elks Lodge. Pallbearers were Tom Mossing, Bob Tiegs, Ron Brandt, Donald Petersen, George Koza and Don Pickett.
