Treiber – Dena Treiber, widow of the late Herbert Treiber of Bassano, passed away in Brooks on January 2nd, 2005 just a day before her birthday, at the age of 96 years. Born on January 3rd, 1908 in Ashley, North Dakota she came to Canada with her parents in 1917 to the Schuler area and later moved to Olds. Dena and Herbert were married in Olds on March 6th, 1927 returning to Schuler. They moved to Bassano in 1936 and she had resided there until entering the Brooks Health Centre. Dena had been a member of the Knox Presbyterian Church, Bassano; the Royal Purple Lodge and the Willing Workers in Bassano and the Bassano Drop-in Centre. She will be lovingly remembered for her homemade noodles, for her leafless yard in the fall and for her crocheting Afghans and coat hanger covers. Dena was predeceased by Herbert on November 20th, 1986; her parents Adam and Pauline; 5 brothers – Herbert, Albert, Harry, Elmer and Marvin; 1 sister Agnes Goodrich; 2 grandchildren Dianne Heryford and Shane Gordichuk and a son-in-law Bob Heryford. She is survived by her loving family, 3 sons Reuben Treiber and his wife Teresa of Bassano, Clifford and his wife Ina of Bassano and Richard Treiber of Carstairs; 2 daughters Verna Heryford of Bassano and Judith Gordichuk and her husband Andy of Dawson Creek; 14 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren; 2 sisters, her twin sister Lena Wombold of Brooks and Gladys Hockett of Calgary and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM on Thursday, January 6th from Knox Presbyterian Church, Bassano. Rev. Hector Rose officiating.
