Winchester – Doris Virginia Winchester of Brooks passed away on November 5th, 2008 in Brooks at the age of 82 years. Born on May 5th, 1926 in Medicine Hat, Doris was raised in Millicent and received her education in Tilley and Millicent. She married Dale Winchester in Brooks on December 20th, 1946, residing in Millicent. Doris moved to Taber in 1954, Duchess in 1964, Bassano in 1969 and to Brooks in 1972. She enjoyed painting and embroidery.
Doris loved her family and camping and will be remembered for her outgoing nature. Doris was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion and was involved with the Red Hatters and Seniors Outreach. She was predeceased by her son Jim and parents Lawrence and Mary. She is survived by her loving family, children Earl (Evelyne) Winchester, Virginia (Syd) Rau, Linda (Andy) Horwath, Morris (Marilyn) Winchester, Viola (Tod) Boisvert, Brad (Lisa) Kingston and Crystal (Dan) Daniel; 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Thursday, November 13th at 2:00 PM from Smith Memorial Chapel. Pastor Glen Dueck officiated. Interment followed at Brooks Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers were all of Doris’ great grandchildren. Active Pallbearers were Gordon Horwath, Barry Horwath, Kevin Winchester, Chad Daniel, Alva Daniel and Paul Kerklan.
