The Silver Sage Agribition is looking to partner with the community as a whole to help see their plan come to fruition over the next few years.
Ken Neufeld, president, told city council committee last week that they would like to construct an event centre and would like the city to help determine the size, a campground, a staging area for the walking path and relocating the riding area.
There is also a need to replace the arena roof but their initial request is for water and sewer.
“That’s going to be our first one,” said Neufeld.
“We’re always looking as an Ag. Society to say, ‘what’s our economic impact? How do we assess it? How do we get local recognition for what we do?” he said.
He said there is potential to do a lot more than what is currently in place.
“We want to work with the region, partner with tourism and see what that looks like,” said Neufeld.
He said grants are being applied for and there is the opportunity for in-kind donations as matching grants.
At the March meeting of the Eastern Irrigation District board, members agreed to donate and transfer about 106.3 acres to Silver Sage for $1.
Surveying and associated costs are to be covered by Silver Sage.
The board will further discuss the transfer and donation during their April meeting.
