It’s not a surprise that the Brooks Roadrunners football team have moved through the season undefeated. It’s the final game that will be the tell-all.
For the last two seasons the Roadrunners have been undefeated in the regular season but have lost in the championship and failed to advance to the provincials.
Last Wednesday the Roadrunners finished the regular season with a 6-0 record after defeating the Medicine Hat Hawks 42-27 but now it’s playoffs.
“Playoffs start this week so we will play the fourth seeded team Medicine Hat Junior Vikings. If we win that it’s the league finals the following week,” said head coach Mark Freeman, who hopes that the third time will be the charm but only by taking small steps.
“The last two years we’ve had undefeated regular seasons and we got stopped in the playoffs. So, we’re taking one game at a time right now,” he said.
Freeman is looking at how the team can improve on their success and that will include getting fewer penalties and working on the mental errors.
“We need to be mentally stronger. All of our kids are very talented.
“We just need to put everything together and play an error free game and we’ll be fine. We just want progress. Not perfection. As long as they’re continually getting better and look at next week that’s all I care about,” he said.
The provincials will be played during the November long weekend.
