Last Wednesday over 400 students from the city and county took part in the inaugural skills trade fair at Brooks Composite High School.
The event, co-organized by the high school and the area’s workforce development officer, was an opportunity for students to learn about the world of skilled trades.
It took months to plan the event with the idea to promote trades in the city and county.
The event was deemed to be very successful and will lead to future events.
Vendors from 21 organizations including millwright, hair stylist, electrician, baker and cook as well as post-secondary school representatives attended the event which allowed students to network.
Julie O’Farrell, BCHS off-campus coordinator, said the event was very well-received by the vendors and the students.
“It is hoped that this can become an annual event,” she said.
