The Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta had provided pen readers to the 14 member libraries of the Shortgrass Library System.
The scanning pens, C-Pen Reader2s, allow users to scan a line of text and then hear it read out loud.
The pens can be beneficial for people with print disabilities and those learning to read in English.
The pens read in four different languages and contain extensive dictionaries for help in defining works.
“Libraries support access to reading, both for recreation and education,” said Petra Mauerhoff, CEO of Shortgrass Library System.
“Thanks to these pens, community members across the region will have easier access to materials that are only available in print.”
The pens will be available at area libraries in Alcoma, Bassano, Brooks, Duchess, Gem, Rolling Hills, Rosemary and Tilley.
