Evans – With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Gloria Evans on September 10, 2024. Gloria was born April 2, 1942, to Mills and Ruby Caverly in North Battleford, SK. She was raised in Meadow Lake, along with her younger brother, Larry. When Gloria was a teenager, the family moved to a farm to live the simple life. Following her formal education, she went to Teacher School for one year. That began her lifelong passion for teaching. Her first job brought her to Rainier, Alberta, where she met Harold. They married in 1963. She taught in Rainier for 5 years from 1961 to 1966.  In 1966, when expecting their first child, Blaine, they moved to Meadow Lake and tried the farming lifestyle for one year. The prairies called them back to Alberta. They purchased their first home in Bassano, where their second son, Jeff was born and Gloria continued to teach school. In 1973, they moved into their brand-new home in Brooks, where substitute teaching and their growing boys kept her busy. During the next 20 plus years, while raising their family, Gloria continued her education and traveled back and forth to Lethbridge and proudly obtained her Bachelor of Education degree. Gloria began her final teaching position at the Medicine Hat College, when it started in the old hospital in Brooks. She taught English there for many years. Retirement brought a whole new lifestyle where she rekindled her love of sewing and learned how to quilt. She created many beautiful works of art with her sewing machine. Her talents will be cherished by many for years to come. Volunteering was also a big part of Gloria’s life, so much so that she was the Citizen of the Year in 1998. She will be missed by everyone who knew her!  Left to cherish her memories are her husband of sixty one years, Harold; her son, Blaine; his children, Mitch (Lindsay) and Staci and Jeff’s daughter, Noel (Peter); her sisters-in-law, Ada and Carol; her brother-in-law, Vic; numerous nieces and nephews along with all of her many, many friends. Gloria was predeceased by her parents, Mills and Ruby; her brother, Larry; her in-laws, Sybil and Jack; her son, Jeff and her granddaughter, Jennifer.
