    Wannet – Gezina Geertrudia Johanna (Cinty) Wannet of Brooks, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 30th, 2024, with family by her side, at the age of 90 years. Cinty was born in Wijchen (by Nijmegen), Netherlands on November 5th, 1933. She received all of her education in Holland, including 2 year of Home Ed. Married on May 18th, 1957 in Nijmegen, and immigrated to Canada that same year. They arrived in Bellevue in the Crowsnest Pass. They had their first daughter Helga there, before moving to Oyen, AB, where their second daughter, Daisy was born. Four years later in 1964, they moved to Brooks, where they owned and operated the Brooks Bakery. In 1968, a son (Paul) was added to the family. Cinty was a long-time member of the CWL (60yrs), she also served as President for 2 yrs. She volunteered at the Hospital Gift Shop, Meals on Wheels, and helped with the monthly Bingo at the Newbrook Lodge for 40yrs. Later in life Cinty started crocheting making many, many afghans. She was an avid card player playing many different games and still learning from the grandchildren as she grew older, she had a fierce competitive spirit. Cinty loved to play and she got together with her wonderful and much loved friends at least once a week to play and visit. Mom enjoyed many trips with her friends and family to visit a brother in Australia, Palm Springs, Hawaii, The Netherlands and can’t forget the bus trips with friends to the casino. Cinty was predeceased by her parents, 3 brothers, 2 sisters, and a sister-in-law Riet Wagener. Survived by her loving children Helga (John) Van Otterloo, Daisy (Steve) Fougere and Paul (Tawnya) Wannet; 4 grandsons, Jason (Melissa) Van Otterloo, Greg (Tara ) Van Otterloo, Chris Fougere and Shawn (Lacy) Fougere; 6 great grandchildren, Graeme, Noah, Brielle, Adaline, Aria and Landon. The family would like to thank all those who looked after and cared for her at the Lodge, Sunrise Gardens, Long Term Care, and the hospital. Also Dr. Thomson, for the many years she looked after mom, and Sylvia Vogt for always being there for mom and looking out for her. A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, July 8th at 11:00 AM from St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Rev. Marino Infante Celebrant. Interment followed at Brooks Cemetery. In memory of Cinty, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to either Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 100,119-14 St. NW, Calgary, Alberta   T2N 1Z6 or Diabetes Canada, via online.
