Lundquist – Joyce Syrene Lundquist (née Skrove) was born on August 12, 1943, and passed away surrounded by her loving family on July 28, 2023, in Brooks, AB, after a courageous year-long battle with cancer. She was the second daughter of Morris and Nina Skrove and was a sister to Mary-Louise, Berniece, and Eric. She was born, raised, and spent her entire life in Rolling Hills, the community she loved dearly. Joyce moved from West Hills School to East Rolling Hills School, and it is here where she met the love of her life, Leonard Lundquist. They married on April 4, 1964, in St. James Catholic Church, Rolling Hills and were blessed to have celebrated 59 years of wedded bliss this past April. Joyce and Leonard have three daughters (Linnea, Louise, and Trudy), and gained three sons-in-law (Greg, Wade, and David) and were blessed with three grandchildren (Nina, Paige, and Karlen). Agriculture was a love Joyce and Leonard shared and thus began a life-long career in farming and ranching that continues to this day. Joyce was a licensed hairdresser and ran a business out of her home for many years. Joyce’s passions included sewing, reading, gardening, travelling and being a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She helped coach her girls’ baseball teams, drove many miles for Pony Club events, lucked out and had her 3 girls on the same hockey team, and supported their many other endeavours. She was a lifelong member of the Rolling Hills Community Club and a founding member of the Rolling Hills Garden Club. In her later years, Joyce was a devoted grandma who never missed her grandkid’s music recitals, hockey games, or barrel races. She had a passion for travelling and was always up for a trip to Disney with her family, cruises, camping, and driving adventures with Leonard. Ski trips, driving to Las Vegas/Arizona, and visiting Brownsville, TX were among some of Joyce’s fondest memories with her friends. Joyce leaves to mourn her passing her beloved husband of nearly 60 years, Leonard, and their three daughters, Linnea (Greg) Andrew, Louise (Wade) Zawadzki, and Trudy (David) Deschner and their three children Nina, Paige, and Karlen. She is also survived by her extended family Eric (Joy) Skrove, Auntie Eleanor deConinck Smith, Ron Harty, Elsie Lundquist, Curt (Dianne) Lundquist, Dale (Joan) Lundquist, Marilyn Lundquist and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Joyce was predeceased by her parents Morris and Nina Skrove, sisters Mary-Louise Nielsen, Bernice Harty, her in-laws Werner and Isabelle Lundquist, and brothers-in-law Joseph Lundquist and Edward Lundquist. Funeral services were held at Rolling Hills Community Centre on Friday, August 4th at 2:00 PM. Rev. Walter Willford officiating. Honorary Pallbearers were Nina and Paige Deschner. Active Pallbearers were Karlen Deschner, Shaune Harty, Stacey Harty, Glen Nielson, Mark Lundquist, and Jeff Lundquist. Interment followed at the Rolling Hills Cemetery.
