ROTH- John Carl Roth was born in Calgary, Alberta on June 26, 1930, and passed away Monday, February 27, 2023.
John was raised on the farm in Rainier, Alberta and worked for farmers in the area until he joined the army in 1950. He served with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in the paratroop division. He spent three years serving in Korea during the Korean war and was released in 1954. After returning to Canada, he worked in a B.C. mine for two years and then went on to work for the McMillan Blodell Plywood Plant, from which he retired after 25 years. He lived in White Rock, B.C. with his first wife, Rosie (deceased), and later moved to Vernon, B.C. with the new love of his life, Ruby Bennett (deceased). Together, they moved to Bridgewater, Nova Scotia in 1991 and lived in Lahave Estates Park as their last residence. They enjoyed their time in Lahave Estates and the good neighbours they had there. John was a dedicated Legion member everywhere he lived and found friendship and comradery in B.C. and Nova Scotia alike. John was predeceased by his parents, Olav and Gudrun Roth, and sister Gladys McKinnon. He is survived by his brothers Thomas (Laura, deceased) in Logan Lake, B.C.; Oscar (Berniece) in Calgary, AB; Will (Rayma) in Salmon Arm, B.C.; Arnold (Linda) in Brooks, AB; as well as his brother-in-law, Don McKinnon in Calgary, AB. John is survived by his stepson, Jim Leopold (Wanda) in Bridgewater, NS, and Jim’s children. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed.
Funeral services will be held in Bridgewater, NS, March 16, 2023.
