BEVAN – It is with deep sadness and so much love that we mourn the passing of our partner, sister, daughter, aunt and friend Julie Kaye Bevan.
Julie was born June 18th, 1955, in Calgary, Alberta and lived in Brooks, Alberta throughout her childhood. After grade 12, she moved to Calgary to attend Mount Royal College and completed a degree in Police Science. Julie was passionate about sports and discovered basketball in grade 10. She played high school basketball at the Brooks Composite High School through grade 12 and went on to play for Mount Royal College for four years. While playing at Mount Royal she received numerous awards including ‘Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player’. After Mount Royal, Julie went on to play for the senior ‘A’ women’s basketball team ‘The Calgary Mac’s’, and travelled the country attending senior women’s basketball tournaments. Julie was a natural athlete and started playing fastball in her twenties. She quickly learned the sport and became an accomplished pitcher. Though Julie had many great accomplishments, she always remained very modest.
Julie enjoyed attending the Stampeders Football games with her family and was also an avid fan of the Calgary Flames. One of Julie’s greatest pleasures was supporting and attending the sports and other events of her nieces and nephews. There ‘might’ have been a time or two when Auntie Julie had a warning from the ref because she did not like a particular call or lack of one. Julie was never afraid to stick up for her loved ones and stand by what she believed in.
Julie looked forward to her yearly excursions to Hawaii with her family. She cherished the quality time and adventures with her family and always came back relaxed and rejuvenated.
Julie had a wonderful relationship with her beloved partner, Gail, of 36 years. She and Gail resided at Macewan Village, in Calgary, for 20 years and established many friendships. It would be very remiss not to include the love that Julie had in this community.
A few years ago it was by chance and great joy that Julie was reconnected by her birth family. She found comfort, understanding and peace with her extended relationships.
Julie was a dedicated employee for Fleet Brake Parts & Service and retired after 37 years with the company.
Julie was predeceased by mother, Shirley Bevan. Julie leaves behind her partner Gail Morris, father, Hugh Bevan, brother, Tim (Doreen) Bevan, niece,Christa (Michael) Schaupmeyer, their children, Katie and Adam, niece, Heather (J.D) Fournier and their children, Marek and Damon, her sister, Marnie (Terry) Troidl, their children Tyler, Cody and Carson and many extended relatives. We would like to thank all friends and extended family for their words of love and support.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to ‘The Brooks Health Center or The Canadian Tire Jumpstart program.
A celebration of life will be held with the date yet to be determined.
