Genovese – On October 13, 2022 Maria Petronilla Genovese slipped into her new life with Jesus and those she loved who preceded her. She continues to live in the hearts of those she left. Maria came to Canada in 1953, from Naples Italy with small daughter Anna to join her husband, Frank, who had come in 1952. They lived in several locations to accommodate Frank’s CPR career and eventually settled in the Imperial Colony, to pursue their dream of farming. The family expanded to include Tony, Guy and John. Maria and Frank retired to Brooks in 1993. They joined Prairie Pioneers and won several provincial medals in shuffleboard, floor curling, horseshoes and bocci ball. Maria had a green thumb bigger than any horticultural specialist. Their home yard in Prairie Meadows was always beautiful and won Yard of the Year Awards. Maria showed artistic creativity in crocheting and knitting and won first place medals in provincial standings for quilts and doilies. Maria had exceptional social skills which complemented her impeccable intelligence. Her gentle, motherly manner touched many lives and earned the respect of all that knew her. The lack of Maria’s presence will bring sadness to many. Maria is survived by daughter, Anna Lorenz and husband Bill of Saanichton, BC; 3 sons, Tony and wife Della of Brooks, Guy and wife Elaine of Airdrie, and John and wife Karen of Patricia; 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Family extends a thank you to Sunrise Gardens staff for their attentive and outstanding care. Funeral Mass will be Celebrated on Friday, October 21 at 1:00 PM. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Brooks. Rev. Marino Infante Celebrant. Family Graveside to follow at Brooks Cemetery. Guests are welcome to the reception after Mass in the St. Mary’s Parish Hall and pay tribute to Maria.
