Mary Elaine Plumer 1925 – 2022
Mary Elaine Plumer (born October 12, 1925) passed away on October 6, 2022 in Brooks, Alberta. She was predeceased by her husband, William Wallace Plumer (Bill), on April 15, 1991 and by their eldest daughter, Mary “Ann” Burrell, on Aug 6, 2018. Her memory is cherished by her remaining children: Bill Plumer (Charlotte) and Alison Saarenpaa (Jaakko) both of Brooks, Alberta, Glen Plumer (Danette) of Duchess, Alberta and Linda Plumer of Okotoks, Alberta. She is survived by 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was born and raised in Three Hills, Alberta. After high school, Mary attended normal school and it was quickly apparent that she had found her passion in teaching. She chose to teach at the Bassano School, where she lived at the teacherage with Jean Barlow (nee Wright). The girls attended local dances where they filled their dance cards. Bill and Mary were married in Red Deer, Alberta on July 14, 1950. They moved to a farm north of Brooks in 1951, where they raised their family on a busy mixed farm. Mary was substitute teaching in Duchess and working off the farm once the kids were in school, in addition to growing a very large garden to feed the family and frequent guests. Mary and Bill shared a passion for golf and Mary continued to golf until very late in life. Her sewing was beautiful and she could pick up any handicraft in a heartbeat. Mary contributed to her family, her community and her many friends with joy, wisdom and grace.
In keeping with Mary’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.
