Swenson – Eileen Jean Swenson of Brooks, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 6th 2022 at the age of 94 years. Eileen was born Dec. 1st, 1927 in Bashaw, Alberta to parents Gordon and Iva Ennis. She grew up with her younger brother, Bob, in Bashaw and then Delburne. She then continued to the University of Calgary to become a teacher, graduating in 1947. She taught grade 1 in Delburne and then grades 1 and 2 in Bowness but, she was best known for her 10 years of teaching grade 3 in Rainier in later years. She married George Swenson on Nov. 10th, 1951, after a 2-year courtship. Rainier was their home for the next 32 years. Larry was born in 1953 and three years later Bill was born. Life was busy with the boys in judo, 4H, music lessons and school activities. Eileen and George enjoyed many trips with their friends over the years and numerous trips to Minnesota to visit close relatives. They retired to Brooks in 1983, where they were actively involved in the church, curling, square dancing, playing cards and all the fun things retirement brings. After 37 years of marriage, George passed away in 1988. In 2004, Eileen moved to Pioneer Villa Court #4, where she spent 16 happy years surrounded by friends, old and new. She moved to Sunrise Gardens in 2020. Eileen is survived by her son, Bill and his wife Janice, and her “favorite” only granddaughter, Katelynne and husband Tom and her 2 new joys in her life, her great grandchildren, Nora and Kenzie. Eileen was predeceased by husband George, son Larry and brother Bob. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 27th at 10:00 AM at the Brooks United Church.
