    PRUS – Dr. Robert (Bob) Daniel Prus of Brooks passed away suddenly on November 15th, 2002. Bob was born in Strathclair, Manitoba. He graduated from the University of Manitoba’s medical school in 1952 and completed an additional year of post-graduate work in surgery.

    Bob practiced medicine in Shoal Lake, Manitoba from 1953 to 1969. Bob married Shirley Bamford on August 22nd, 1959 and together they raised three children. They moved their family to Parry Sound, Ontario in July 1969.

    In September 1970 the family moved to Brooks, Alberta where Bob practiced medicine until 1998. After a lengthy two-week retirement Bob continued to pursue his love of medicine by traveling throughout Alberta doing locums until he was “called to higher office”.

    Bob was an avid sports fan, enjoyed hunting and curling, was a member of the Lions Club, worked with the Boy Scouts, and served on the vestry and was a Rector’s Warden in both the Shoal Lake and Brooks Anglican Churches.

    Bob will be remembered for his life-long commitment to medicine, his love for his family, his strength and determination and his kindness and generosity. Many people will also remember Bob for his love of and elocution of poetry.

    He was predeceased by his mother Paraska, father Jacob, and brothers Tom, Bill, Peter, Don, Charlie, and Roy. Bob is survived by his wife Shirley of Brooks; daughter Holly and her daughter Meagan of Edmonton; daughter Heather and her sons Jeff and Kevin of Bonnyville; son Robert of Brooks; sisters Ollie of Kamloops, Jean of Winnipeg and Fran of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, November 21st from St. Alban’s
    Anglican Church, Brooks. Reverend Ken Wells officiating.

    Internment to follow at Brooks Cemetery. In recognition of excellent physicians in Alberta who provide outstanding care to their patients, the family has established the Dr. Robert D. Prus Memorial Bursary at the University of Calgary. This Bursary will assist medical students in financial need.
