Romuld – Marjorie Ileen Romuld of Brooks, passed away on Thursday, June 9th, 2016, at the age of 88 years, while peacefully cuddled in the arms of her two daughters at Sunrise Gardens. Marj was born on the family farm near Hanley, Saskatchewan on October 21st, 1927. She attended schools in the area and after graduation attended Normal School in Saskatoon to obtain her teaching certificate. While teaching in Dunblane, SK, Marj met Babe (Melvin) and they were married in Saskatoon on November 21st, 1953. They lived near Dunblane on the family farm and Marj suspended her teaching career while raising her 7 children. Her career was resumed with a move to Brooks in 1968, where Marj had accepted a Grade 4 teaching position at Central Elementary School. Marj taught the “perfect grade” there for over 20 years, during which she commuted to University of Lethbridge to get her teaching degree. She was a well-loved teacher and very dedicated to her students – at times she had well over 30 of them in her classroom. She was one of the instigators of the famous Grade 4 Cypress Hills Camping trips which incorporated every aspect of the curriculum. Following her retirement in 1988, Marj began to live her long held dreams of travel. Over the years, she travelled to many places including Egypt, Greece, England, Malaysia and Costa Rica just to name a few. As a child Marj rode ponies. As a senior, she rode elephants and camels. Marj’s hobbies included teasing, sewing, gardening, baking, crocheting and fancy needlework, volunteering in the community and being a helpful neighbor and friend. Her hands were always busy. Marj was a founding member of the Adult Day Support Program (ADSP) that now operates out of Sunrise Gardens and also of the Retired Teachers Group. She volunteered throughout the community in places like Seniors Outreach, the Food Bank, Hospital, Red Cross, tutoring ESL and many others. Marj was an amazing and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother always making sure her family was okay. Marj will best be remembered as being a kind, caring, giving, strong, determined and wise woman. She always gave her best, including the very best hugs ever. She was eager to help out wherever needed, her whole life. Everyone was welcome in her home. Marj was predeceased by her husband, parents, siblings and 1 grandchild.
