ROOKE – Agnes Ellen (Nancy) Rooke passed away November 30, 2007 at the Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary at the age of 89 years.
Nancy was born November 2, 1918 at Hutton, Alberta, the second of three daughters to parents, John and Beatrice Cameron. She received her schooling at the Brown and Pollockville Schools and went on to the Calgary Normal School of Education, graduating in 1941. She taught at Connersville, Rolling Hills, Rosemary and also Haney, B.C. where her dad resided at the time.
Nancy married Lionel Rooke on April 5, 1947 in Vancouver, B.C. and they travelled by train back to the Pollockville ranch. They raised a family of five children and were blessed with 55 years of marriage. After Lionel’s passing, Nancy moved into the Hanna Lodge where she enjoyed the activities and friendships she made. In July 2007 she moved into the Hanna Nursing Home until the time of her passing.
Nancy was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star and the Pollockville Hall Club and enjoyed the coffee and visiting with the neighbours at the monthly ladies meetings of the Pollockville Women of Unifarm and later Pollockville Ladies Club.
Nancy always looked forward to visits from her grandchildren, usually letting them win a card game or two and spoiled them with her favorite cookie recipes.
Nancy was predeceased by her best friend and loving husband, Lionel in 2002, twin children, Reid (1953) and Barbara (1975) her parents and sister, Jean Ferguson.
She is survived by daughter Beverly and her children, Barbara and Wayne, son Bradley (Pat) and children, Cal, Carrie, Gwen (Ryan) and Kim, and son Murray (Niki) and children, Kaylie, Stephanie, Braden & Brittanie, great-grandchildren, Drew, Hailey and Abby, sister Christina Nygaard of Brooks and brother-in-law Bill (Mabel) Rooke of Brooks and numerous nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2007 at 2 p.m. at First United Church, Hanna (808 Centre Street, Hanna). Interment to follow at the Hanna Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alberta Heart & Stroke Foundation.
